I don't sleep well at night -- I never have. I have insomnia off and on and I've gotten used to it. So, most nights, I don't fall asleep until really * really * late. But, usually it's ok, because I can sleep until eight am or nine am most days.

But, our neighbors have this little dog -- they've had it for a while, but since summer ended and the one has gone back to her teaching job, she's decided to throw it outside at six F$C#NG am every day and just let it bark outside until she leaves for school at SEVEN AM. So I'm awakened with the barking symphony and, I don't know if you're like this, but once I'm awake, I can't fall back asleep again.

So, I've been going for the past five or six days -- because she does the same thing on the weekend now -- with only three hours of sleep a day. AND IT'S KILLING ME.

So I said if she did it this morning I was going to have words with her. So at six am I called her and she said she was getting ready for school and that she HAD to let the dog out, because it bothers her and her family when they all are getting ready for school in the morning and she can't help it. Then she told me if I didn't like it, I could every morning go down at six thirty when I woke up and let the dog out. I told her "I don't HAVE to get up at six thirty! YOU'RE waking me up at six thirty!" Then I asked her why her children couldn't wait for the dog to go to the bathroom and let it back in immediately.

She said "no one else is awake yet."

WELL IF IT'S WAKING ME UP, I'm sure it's loud enough to wake up the people in your own house!

I'm so mad.

I don't understand why you can't take some responsibility and either wait until your son is up and make HIM wait with the dog -- HELL MAKE HIM WAKE UP TEN MINUTES EARLY for school if it's too much of a hassle for everyone else!

This is the same neighbor who usually on the weekends of summer keeps us up to all hours because there is ALWAYS a party to all hours going on there and we NEVER complain.

But I don't know how much longer I can keep going on just three hours or less of sleep a day. AND I'm not going to take something to sleep in the morning which will put me in a fog all day when it should be THEIR responsibility to keep the dog quiet.

I mean, damn, install a doggie door.

Wake the son up a few minutes early -- he's like 12 or 13, he can be responsible for this -- but DO something.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

Find out your locality's noise violation laws (usually it's between 10 pm - 7 am on weekdays) and call the cops on her ass. ;)

Yeah that's what we're probably going to have to do, because I'm going on fumes now ... and I can't go on like this. I'm bitchy as it is ... ;)

Yeah, that sucks. As a dog owner myself the irresponsible types piss me off. Fair enough if she wasn't aware it was bothering anyone but now she knows it's waking up the neighbours so she should sort it out not argue about it.

Yeah I mean we grew up having dogs. When they went outside to make "nice" we waited for them in the morning and brought them immediately back in. Our dogs only barked if someone rang the doorbell and never barked if they were outside longer than a few minutes. But this is INSANE.

And she keeps letting her out earlier and earlier.

AND it craps all over our yard -- she watches it crap all over our yard and never sends over her son to clean it up. It's insane.

There's probably some way to file a complaint about this. They're being irresponsible; it's causing you distraction and pain (yes, lack of sleep is VERY painful!).

Yeah it's tough because we have a small circle of houses in our plan so there's just like 15 total or less ... so rocking the boat is something no one wants to do, but sheesh!

Plus the rest of the neighborhood has small kids who go to school or is elderly -- who probably are up that time anyway. So I think it bugs us more than anyone else ...

I feel your pain, girl.

Take pictures of the offending pup in the act. Nothing will support your case better.

Call the cops. These people obviously know nothing about courtesy or propriety or anything remotely resembling the above. They also don't give a shit about their dog (please pardon the pun!). If they did, they would take the necessary time to train him properly.

For general noise deadening - even after the situation with the neighbor gets resolved - I can recommend Quiet Time earplugs. We get them at Wal*Mart. They're a lovely shade of purple and BOY, do they work! Also, a white noise generator will help tremendously (ours is made by HoMedics).

Sweet dreams! =^_^=

I have to wear ear plugs when I'm in water at any time and I hate them ... I don't want to have to wear them to sleep. If there's an emergency in the house, I might miss it ... so ....
